Feb. 03 (THEWILL) – A religious group under the Akwa Ibom State Council of Ministers says Governor Udom Emmanuel has never shown fairness and fairness in the recent approval of the commissioner for land and water resources, Mr. Umo Eno as his successor come 2023, demanding a total withdrawal of such in the interest of peace.
Addressing a press conference in Uyo on Thursday, the group’s chairman, Apostle Joseph Nyong and Secretary Apostle Elijah Usoh said the action did not represent the zoning arrangement that existed in the state.
The group explained that the former governor, Obong Victor Attah, who led the approval was a product of the zoning system in 1999 and questioned why the former statesman decided to collude with the incumbent governor to scuttle the same zoning arrangements that inducted him as state governor. .
“We also express our disappointment and dissatisfaction with the central role played by the duo Obong Victor Attah and Oku Ibom Ibibio on the said endorsement Attah as a former statesman and beneficiary of zoning cannot blow hot and cold at the same time.”
“Furthermore, the Oku Ibom Ibibio as the guardian of if our traditional institution must at all times be a father to all and maintain neutrality in the political affairs of the state.”
The group’s president insisted that Governor Emmanuel’s endorsement was tantamount to imposing and outmaneuvering the majority of the Akwa Ibom people.
“Such approval not only constitutes an imposition of taxation and a direct affront to the political will of the majority of the people of Akwa Ibom, but also constitutes a clear violation of the long-standing and immutable zoning arrangements in the State. .”
He therefore urged Governor Emmanuel to seek his successor in the federal constituency of Itu-Ibiono Ibom in the interests of peace, equity and fair play.
“It is undeniable that only the Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency has yet to produce the Governor of all Federal Constituencies in Uyo Senatorial District. It is therefore fair and just that it is micro-zoned to the federal constituency of Itu/Ibiono.
He observed that Governor Emmanuel and a few individuals under the guise of “fathers of faith” claimed that God had revealed his choice of successor, adding that it was a barefaced lie that was believed to be.
“The God we worship is not an author of confusion or a provider of crisis and disunity. As the God of order, fairness and justice, it is incongruous and inadmissible for the governor and the so-called fathers of the faith to use his name to seek validation of a manifestly unpopular and unacceptable choice.
The group threatened that if the public discontent heralding Governor Emmanuel’s endorsement was not handled well, it could escalate into an avoidable crisis in the 2023 general election.
The president concluded that the church cannot stand aside as few individuals are mortgaging the peace and stability of the state, adding that the right thing must be done by reversing the imposition of a preferred candidate of State.
“We want to state categorically that for the sake of emphasis, as a church, we will not sit back and watch a few individuals mortgage the peace and stability enjoyed by the state,” the statement said. apostle Joseph.
